Our 2019 guide to Katy area holiday events near Elyson

From tree lighting ceremonies to Pictures in the Poinsettias, here’s our list of Katy area holiday highlights. The fun starts in early November, so read on and start enjoying!

Nov. 8-Dec. 24Katy Mills Mall will host a number of holiday activities, starting with photos with Santa from Nov. 8 through Christmas Eve. Pet Photos with Santa happens on Nov. 24. On Dec. 1 and Dec. 8, Caring Santa will provide photo opportunities for children with disabilities.

November 15 – Enjoy Winter Wonderland at Central Green Park from 7-9 p.m. This family event features acrobat performances, stilt characters, face painting, and arts and crafts. Central Green is located in LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch. Explore their full event calendar to see other events, such as outdoor movies, concerts and exercise classes to help you stay healthy and centered during the busy holiday season.

November 22 – The annual Tree Lighting Celebration at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch has become a beloved Katy tradition. Join the fun on Friday, Nov. 22, from 6-9 p.m. Festivities include Santa’s arrival, family activities, live entertainment, and the lighting of LaCenterra’s spectacular 51-foot-high Christmas tree. While you’re there, you can get some holiday shopping (and dining) done amid the many stores and eateries of LaCenterra.

November 22-24 – The Home for the Holidays Gift Market is Katy’s largest craft show and gift market, with 200 vendors and an anticipated 1,200 shoppers. Established in 2008, this show has become an annual tradition for those looking for handmade gifts such as candles, jewelry, gourmet foods, clothing, home décor, wreaths and much more. It takes place at Katy ISD’s Merrell Center.

Poinsettas from Brookwood Community

November 23 – Take Pictures in the Poinsettias at Brookwood Community in Brookshire, a nonprofit community for functionally disabled adults. Reserve your spot in advance to have your family photo taken in a field of Brookwood’s beautiful homegrown poinsettias, then stay for lunch at Brookwood Café.

Nov. 29 – Dec. 29 – Celebrate Christmas at Dewberry Farm in Brookshire, where you can choose and cut your own Christmas tree, shop at the Country Store, and visit Santa and the Giant Snow Globe. Visitors of all ages will love the whimsical Christmas Village, decked out with twinkling lights, garlands, ribbons and tinsel. On the Trail of Lights, you can take a wagon ride through the woods to enjoy more than 1 million lights set to twinkle with music.

December 5 – The Katy Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is held in historic downtown Katy, starting at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Festivities include a Christmas story from the Mayor and live entertainment from a local choir and dance company. Santa will also be here for photos, and hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

December 6 – Enjoy the Brookwood Christmas Open House with lunch and shopping galore for unique gifts, including many made by Brookwood citizens. Highlights include a Brookwood Citizen Christmas Pageant and self-guided campus tours. This all-day event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

December 7 – The Katy Old-Fashioned Christmas Festival in downtown Katy will feature a beer garden, petting zoo, food trucks, Santa, a snow park and 185 vendors. Hosted by Katy Market Day, this free family event starts a 10 a.m. and goes on until 5 p.m.
