Amazing Explorers Academy opens first Houston location in Elyson
Elyson just opened its fourth private preschool, Amazing Explorers Academy, located in The Co-Op at Elyson retail center at FM 529 and Peek Road.
Each preschool at Elyson has a slightly different niche that makes it unique. For Amazing Explorers, it’s a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) based curriculum, with a secondary focus on A.I.
“Our STEAM curriculum aligns nicely with the nearby Harmony School of Excellence in Elyson,” says Daniela Gutierrez, senior Houston area director for Amazing Explorers. “We’re tailored to meet the needs of 21st century learners, and we also draw from time-honored teaching methods such as Reggio Emilia, which strives to educate the whole child in academics and extracurricular activities.”
Amazing Explorers at Elyson enrolls children from infants to 4-5 years old for preschool, with afterschool and spring and summer camps for kids up to 12 years old. To arrange a tour and get enrollment information, visit their website.
Gutierrez says that Amazing Explorers works closely with major local businesses and institutions in each of their markets to create partnerships that will build a foundation for lifetime success for young learners.
“From Tesla to Apple, there are a number of leading companies establishing new presences in the Katy area, and we look forward to reaching out to them,” she said. “We chose Elyson as our first location in the Houston metro area because of all the dynamic growth happening in and around the community. It’s a great foundation to build on.”
Meet the director
The director of the Elyson school is Chrissy Johnson, who has dedicated over 23 years to working in childcare, driven by a passion for helping children succeed. Whether in the classroom, the kitchen, or collaborating directly with families, her focus is on ensuring that every child receives the support and encouragement they need to grow into confident, capable individuals.
In addition to her extensive childcare experience, Johnson holds an associate’s degree in accounting and certifications as a personal trainer and weight loss coach. This diverse background enables her to bring a holistic approach to her work, emphasizing not only academic development but also physical health and personal growth.
As a mother and soon-to-be grandmother, she understands the importance of nurturing young minds and building strong, supportive relationships with families. Her varied roles in the field —from bus driver to cook, teacher to director—have provided her with a comprehensive understanding of child development and care.
