Katy Boardwalk District set to reveal new design and first tenants

Now taking shape around a new 90-acre lake and park, the highly anticipated Katy Boardwalk District is getting closer to bringing new entertainment, dining and shopping experiences to a location approximately 10 miles from Elyson.

A reimagined site plan with a greater emphasis on nature will be released later this fall, and the first group of tenants will be announced in early 2022, according to a statement from the developers.

The Katy Boardwalk District is located just south of I-10, at Kingsland Boulevard and Prairie Parkway, within walking distance to Katy Mills Mall and Texas Typhoon Waterpark.

The refined plan for the overall 169-acre site will maximize the appeal of the 90-acre lake and nature preserve. The new design also will place greater emphasis on improved sight lines and accessibility to the lake for waterfront dining and outdoor activities.

“The impact of COVID-19 gave us extra time to re-evaluate the site plan to ensure we’re incorporating the lakefront experience into the entire project,” said Keith Dalton of KBH Venture, co-developer of the Katy Boardwalk District.

The public-private partnership behind this mixed-use development also includes developer Sueba USA, the City of Katy and the Katy Development Authority.

The Katy Boardwalk District has a new focus on attracting chef-driven restaurants and unique, first-to-market entertainment concepts. Colliers Retail has been hired to handle leasing, and they are currently in discussions with several notable restaurant, bar and entertainment concepts.

“The tenant lineup reflects the diversity of the city, and regular community-driven events on the sprawling green space, art-infused streetscapes,” said Colliers’ Wade Greene in a press release. “The district’s retail mix, amenities, and dining and entertainment options will draw the well-educated and well-traveled from Katy, the greater Houston area and beyond.”

The development will be home to the area’s first full-service hotel and conference center, a 304-room, four-star property with ballroom and event space.

Expected to open by 2023, Katy Boardwalk District will add to a growing number of dining, entertainment and retail attractions near Elyson’s location, including LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch and a new Target-anchored shopping center planned to open in Elyson in 2022.
