Elyson friends open X-Golf Katy as area’s newest family entertainment venue

Located just a few minutes from Elyson, one of Katy’s newest family entertainment venues is owned by two of Elyson’s first residents, Chris Pena and Joe Chaisson.

At 3329 Grand Parkway, X-Golf Katy has 8 golf bays offering what the company describes as “the most accurate and comprehensive” golf simulator technology in the world.

“X-Golf is a place where you can play, train and entertain, whether you’re an expert golfer or beginner,” says Joe.

X-Golf Katy also offers a full sports bar with shareable menu items, beers on tap and signature cocktails.

”With our massive 30-foot bar, there’s no waiting for the food cart to come by out on the course,” says Chris.

Chris says X-Golf is not meant to replace green grass golf, but to make the game more accessible to players of all skill levels, regardless of what the weather’s like outside.

Both Chris and Joe moved to Elyson in 2017, making them some of the community’s earliest residents.

The Pena and Chaisson families met at one of Elyson’s first resident events at Elyson House, in the spring of 2017, and they’ve been good friends ever since.

Chris was part owner of a steel company, and he started feeling the desire for a new venture that would be closer to home and give him more time to spend with his family.

He had always been a passionate golfer, and when he discovered X-Golf and its franchising opportunity in Katy, he asked Joe if he wanted to go into business together.

Now, they are co-owners of X-Golf Katy, which had its grand opening in early 2024.

Both the Pena and Chaisson families had similar reasons for moving to Elyson at around the same time.

Chris and his wife had lived in several areas of Houston, including downtown, and schools became a priority when they found out they were expecting their first child.

“We quickly decided that Katy ISD was where we wanted to be, and we liked Elyson as a new and upcoming community,” says Chris. “Eight years later, we absolutely love it here. Our oldest daughter rides her bike to McElwain Elementary, and our two youngest kids go to Kiddie Academy right here in Elyson.”

Likewise, the Chaisson family saw great potential in Elyson’s vision when they selected their home here in late 2016.

“We looked at some other new developments in Katy, but they felt hemmed in compared to Elyson,” says Joe. “We were impressed by Elyson’s master plan and how it devoted so much to parks, trails and open space.”

Joe and his family recently attended the grand opening of Lakeside Landing, Elyson’s newest recreational amenity. “We have been blown away by all of the new amenities Elyson has added. The community has developed even beyond our expectations.”

Katy ISD schools were also very important to the Chaisson family. Their daughter is in first grade at McElwain Elementary, while their son attends a local Catholic school.
