City vs Suburbs: 5 Reasons Suburban Life Beats City Living

Living in the city offers a great lifestyle for some, whether it’s Millennials who are just starting out and renting their first apartment, or empty nesters who want to be close to arts and culture now that the kids are gone. For many people, though, the benefits of suburban life offer major advantages over living in town.

RISMedia’s Housecall blog recently called out these 5 benefits of suburban living. For our own blog, we look at them from the advantages of living in Katy and Elyson.

More square footage for your money. “When compared to the average city home, a house in the suburbs will usually provide far more square footage for the money,” states Housecall. With new homes priced from the $300,000s to the $800,000s, Elyson offers detached, single-family homes with nice backyards for the dog. In addition to space, new homes offer the latest technologies, and Elyson’s builders are some of the largest and most respected companies in the nation.

Less noise and pollution. “For some people, there’s nothing like falling asleep to the sound of trains, freeway traffic, and outside conversations,” writes Housecall. For the rest of us, there’s life in the suburbs, especially in master-planned communities like Elyson, which offer strong protections and the ability to see into the future with their long-range plans and visions.

Top-rated schools. “Whether or not you intend to have kids, it’s important to look for property in neighborhoods with top-rated schools,” says Housecall. Indeed, there is ample evidence of a strong correlation between schools and property values. Elyson is located in the highly regarded Katy Independent School District, ranked by Niche as the No. 1 Best School District in the Houston Area.

Enjoy Living in a Tight-Knit Community. In the city, “neighborhoods tend to have higher turnover rates, and residents have much less opportunity to forge long-lasting bonds and establish a strong sense of community,” states Housecall. The opposite is true at Elyson, and it doesn’t happen by accident. A Lifestyle Director plans events and activities that bring residents together throughout the year. Many families, like the Hortons, say they’ve made more good friends in just a few months of living at Elyson than they did in years of living in their old neighborhood.

Take an Active Role in Community. “If you love democracy and want to start taking a more active role in the development and maintenance of your community,” Housecalls writes. Communities like Elyson have active Homeowners’ Associations, or HOAs, that offer residents opportunities to get involved.
